Kaliningrad authorities submitted to the Cabinet options for response to the ban on transit by Lithuania
The authorities of the region also expect the exclusion of transit to the region from the list of bans.
Governor Anton Alikhanov said that he had submitted to the Government of Russia and the Presidential Administration options for a possible response to the imposition of a ban on the transit of goods to the region, the correspondent reports. Alikhanov said that the draft retaliatory measures had already been received by officials of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Presidential Administration. He refused to specify specific proposals and said that they could be announced only after 100% approval. At the same time, Alikhanov noted that the region “has something to answer” in economic terms, so that such measures would be sensitive for the citizens of Lithuania. Alikhoanov added that he expects the transit of goods to the region to be excluded from the bans soon.
Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev previously announced Russian response to the unfriendly actions of the Lithuanian authorities. They, according to him, will affect all the inhabitants of the country and will have a negative impact on its economy.
As a reminder, earlier Lithuanian Railways notified the Kaliningrad Railway that from June 18 the transit of a number of goods subject to EU sanctions will be suspended. Transportation of oil products to the Kaliningrad region through Lithuania continues, their transit is not limited until August 10.
Representatives of the Federation Council have previously reported that in such a situation Russia has a free hand to solve the problem by any means.
