In the middle of summer, Europe is covered by a new wave of coronavirus
Coronavirus numbers are rising sharply again in Europe, the pandemic is not over.
This was stated by the European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is still with us. Numbers are rising sharply again in Europe,” she wrote on her Twitter.
The 14-day case notification rate in week 25 in the European Union and the European Economic Area was 694.1 per 100,000 people, up from 518.6 in week 24.
This combined figure has been increasing for the third week, according to the materials of the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC).
At the same time, the fourteen-day COVID-19 death rate at week 25 in this region decreased to 6.6 per million people compared to 7.6 at week 24.
In the UK, the number of cases is also growing rapidly, according to the BBC.
To date, there are about 2.3 million cases, that is, every thirtieth inhabitant of the country. This is 32% more than just a week ago.
Experts attribute this to two new and very rapidly spreading varieties of Omicron – BA.4 and BA.5.
Moreover, even those who have already had covid can get sick.
Earlier we wrote that in Israel, the authorities announced the beginning of a new, already seventh wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The country may tighten quarantine restrictions. Now almost 47 thousand people are sick with coronavirus in the country, and half of them have been diagnosed with the virus in the last week.
Also, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine recently reported that almost 700,000 Ukrainians did not receive a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 14 million did not get a booster shot. At the same time, we recall that in Ukraine the quarantine associated with the coronavirus has been extended until August 31.
