Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has passed away at the age of 84. It is reported by CNN.
Albright was US Secretary of State in the government of Bill Clinton. She became the first woman in this post.
She was born in Prague in 1937. When she was 11 years old, the family emigrated to the United States, where her father became a professor at the University of Denver. Madeleine Albright graduated from Columbia University with a master’s degree, and eight years later a Ph.D.
She began her political career as an activist of the Democratic Party. In 1978, she was appointed to the National Security Council under President Jimmy Carter and was responsible for public relations.
She has held senior positions in several analytical groups in the presidential administration. In 1993, Albright became the US Permanent Representative to the UN and was instrumental in setting the course of US foreign policy towards Bosnia, Haiti and Somalia.
