Facebook, along with other technology companies, are going to lay a fiber optic cable along the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, this will significantly increase the speed of the Internet connection.
This is reported by the Canadian public broadcaster CBC News.
Laying a transatlantic undersea telecommunications cable for tech giant Facebook on the ocean floor near Nova Scotia is scheduled to begin this week.
The cable will be 6600 km long and about 4 cm thick. It will connect the city of Lynn in Massachusetts, Bordeaux in France and Cornwall in Britain.
80% of the cable is owned by Facebook, the other partners are Microsoft and Vodafone.
Part of the cable will pass through the region, which may soon receive the status of a marine reserve, which causes concern among environmentalists.
