The Volzhsky District Court of Saratov terminated the criminal case against Gennady Sviridov, ex-chairman of the city administration’s committee for road facilities.
The reason for this decision was the expiration of the limitation period, reports “Look-info”. Initially, Sviridov was suspected of abuse of power, but by the end of the investigation, the article was reclassified as negligence.
According to the investigation, when drawing up the project for the reconstruction of Kirov Avenue, the official ordered that the site in front of the Detsky Mir building be included in the work plan. The land was privately owned. Budget money was used to lay new paving slabs and install benches. The damage from the crime was estimated at more than 6 million rubles. The total cost of works on the repair of the avenue was 228.3 million rubles.
“I believe that the prosecutor’s office should not have approved the indictment at all, much less take the case to court. During the trial, the state prosecution itself asked to reclassify the case from abuse of office to negligence. The formal approach is also evidenced by the fact that initially the prosecutor’s office sent the case to the wrong court (to Frunzensky), having confused the jurisdiction, ”said Sviridov’s lawyer Denis Barabonin.
