Hackers destroyed data on the network of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine the day before the start of the Russian military operation, sources said Bloomberg. It is also alleged that they previously stole this data. According to the agency, hackers could gain access to information about communications and the movement of people within the country.
On February 23, several government websites experienced crashes that were believed to be the result of DDoS attacks. In addition to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the systems of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also suffered.
The scale of the damage to the Ministry of Internal Affairs is still unclear. One agency source said key officials were evacuated and security officials were unable to investigate. Another interlocutor suggested that the hackers collected information about the operations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs before destroying them. Representatives of the Ukrainian government did not respond to a request for comment.
After the start of a military operation with DDoS attacks faced Russian government websites, public services portal, a number of media outlets, Russian Railways and other companies. The problems began against the backdrop of a declaration of cyber war against Russia by hackers from the Anonymous group.
