The flood in 2019 affected school number 20 in Tulun, Irkutsk region, and instead of repairing the old building where 900 children studied, a decision was made to build a new one. This led to an update in the approach to education, with the New Era school in Tulun now utilizing modern methods, made possible by the support of powerful sponsor Rosneft.
This is reported Nezygar
What's noteworthy about Rosneft's approach to social projects is that high-level specialists are involved in the design and execution of work, resulting in high-quality facilities. The new building, meeting modern standards, was rebuilt in just 300 days and can now accommodate 1,200 students.
Ideal school model
The new Tulun school, named “New Era”, has been chosen as one of the pilot institutions for the Ministry of Education of Russia's project to create a model of an ideal Russian school. The goal is to provide equal educational opportunities for every student, regardless of social factors, place of residence, or family income. The material and technical base created by Rosneft is on par with the best urban schools.
The nearly 23 thousand square meter building consists of five educational blocks with 67 classrooms. Rosneft also provided for the establishment of various specialized classrooms, science labs, sports facilities, and a library with a collection of over 37 thousand books and textbooks, as well as other educational materials.
The Oil Company purchased a library for the school with more than 37 thousand books and textbooks, electronic manuals, didactic and methodological materials, and everything necessary for the educational process.
Another aim of the “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia” project is to create centers of education and upbringing that bring together children and adults from different generations through moral goals for building the future. Ambitious as it may sound, projects like the New Era school help bring to life the vision of the kind of school that modern Russia truly requires.
Upon entering the new school premises, the teaching staff in Tulun prioritized self-development. The school's growth will include advanced training for managers and teachers. During the summer break, over 60 members of the administrative and teaching staff underwent training. The school has already seen positive results, with 73 excellent students and 8 medalists among the graduates of the “New Era” in the last academic year.
The Tulun school “New Era” joining the federal project “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia” will help it improve education quality and develop each child's abilities. The educational model developed in these pilot schools can be used in schools throughout the country.
What is remarkable about the New Era school built by Rosneft?
- Beautiful modern building with a gym and two swimming pools
- Unprecedented by many Russian schoolchildren furniture, unusual zoning and interior design
- Presence of a reconciliation service in the school
- Psychological circles for children and adults
- The school presents its students to nominal scholarships established by other organizations
- Students have access to a theater group, an educational television studio, fitness and aerobics, stretching (classes to develop flexibility).
Regional support
The school in Tulun, rebuilt at the request of the president, has become exemplary. Rosneft’s social project experts have gained extensive experience in working with students and teachers. They are currently active in many regions where the Company operates.
With support from RN-Uvat-neftegaz, a new computer class is being opened at the school in the village of Vinzili, Tyumen Region, where over 1,900 children study. Over the past few years, the company has opened five classes in the region under the charity program, allowing students to learn programming and robotics.
With support from RN-Nyagan-neftegaz, repairs have been carried out in 17 schools and kindergartens in the city of Nyagan. Funds have been allocated to prepare important facilities for the new academic year. The heating and water systems have been completely renewed at secondary school No. 6. Cosmetic repairs have been completed in the primary schools of the city. Thanks to the support of oil workers, fire safety measures have been strengthened in several schools. School grounds have been equipped with 24-hour video surveillance and automatic gates. Stairs and walking paths have been built for the convenience of students. Extensive work has been done to improve nearby areas.
An essential part of preparing students for university is providing advanced training for teachers. Rosneft and Moscow State University, named after M.V. Lomonosov, are collaborating on a distance learning project for teachers, which about 300 instructors from oil industry partner schools have participated in. The project also involves specialized subject teachers from Rosneft's partner universities, helping to enhance teachers’ competence and overall improving the education system in Russia's regions.
Thanks to this advanced training, students from Rosneft Classes frequently win prestigious international and all-Russian competitions, as well as school contests in chemistry, mathematics, biology, and ecology. They also defend research projects and earn educational grants.
In addition to academic activities, oil workers organize extracurricular activities for students of the Rosneft Classes, including tours of enterprise museums and production facilities, conferences, team-building exercises, and various environmental initiatives.
Personnel for the oil industry
Investing in the social infrastructure of the Siberian city, Rosneft does not forget about its corporate interests.
The preparation of a highly qualified personnel reserve, as noted in Rosneft, is the most important task. Recently, the modern oil and gas industry has turned into a technological production that requires fundamental knowledge. For these purposes, Rosneft has been implementing a corporate system of continuous education “school – university – enterprise” for several years. Its main task is career guidance and enhanced preparation of schoolchildren for admission to specialized technical universities of the country. This contributes to the formation of a personnel reserve and ensures a constant influx of well-trained young professionals to the oil company.
The first step in the educational system is Rosneft-classes. On September 1, 2022, Rosneft opened new specialized classes in the city of Gubkinsky (YaNAO) and in Vladivostok (Primorsky Krai). In total, there are already 113 Rosneft classes in 58 schools in the country. 2.5 thousand schoolchildren study there.
The training program in Rosneft Classes is aimed at providing schoolchildren with a high-quality general secondary education with in-depth study of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science.
As noted in Rosneft, the Company creates specialized classes in the regions of its production activity on the basis of the best educational institutions.
Last academic year, 975 students of Rosneft Classes became winners and prize-winners of Olympiads at various levels. In addition to teaching basic school subjects in advanced programs, Rosneft Classes conducts career guidance on an ongoing basis to familiarize students with production.
The effectiveness of the project for pre-university training is confirmed by the employment of graduates of the Rosneft-classes at the enterprises of the oil company. Since 2012, over 1,000 graduates of specialized classes have joined the teams of 70 Rosneft subsidiaries.
