Andriy Shevchenko continues to be Vice-President of the NOC despite the presence of members of the HRE in the Executive Committee
Despite the promises not to work with representatives of the HRE in the NOC, ex-footballer Andriy Shevchenko, one and a half weeks after the scandal, remains vice president of the National Olympic Committee. He was not expelled from the NOC because he did not submit a corresponding application, and the Executive Committee did not vote on this issue in the NOC, writes Apostrophe.
“Andriy Shevchenko is still the vice-president of the NOC at the moment. There was no vote. According to the procedure, meetings of the Executive Committee should be held, if someone submits an application for withdrawal from the NOC – to resign – this resignation is accepted by the Executive Committee. We had an Executive Committee on November 18, when the next one will be, it is not known, ”said the representative of the committee.
The Committee clarified that Andriy Shevchenko did not receive a statement about his withdrawal from the NOC.
“He is currently a member of the NOC, and vice president. The decision to resign Shevchenko was not made by the NOC,” the Olympic Committee clarified.
Recall that on November 17, elections were held at the NOC. Shevchenko became vice president, but the next day he announced his unwillingness to work in the same team with those who became members of the NOC, hinting at representatives of the HLE.
After that, on November 18, by the decisions of the Executive Committee, NOCs were excluded from the members of the Committee members of the Opposition Platform for Life party Grigory Surkis and Nestor Shufrich. At the same time, the NOC Executive Committee includes other representatives of the Opposition Platform for Life: Mikhail Koshlyak, Andrei Vingranovsky, Alexander Symonenko, and others. According to football player Roman Zozulya, more than 15 ex-members of the Opposition Platform for Life and Regionals still remain in the NOC. Earlier, Jean Beleniuk, Oleg Protasov and Georgy Zubko showed their statements about leaving the NOC due to the presence of representatives of pro-Russian and banned political forces there.
