The ex-Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Saratov Region is facing a penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of 35 million rubles for taking 11 million rubles in bribes
The Oktyabrsky District Court of Saratov has sentenced Larisa Kuznetsova, the former head of the committee on informatization of the Saratov region, to ten years in a penal colony. Kuznetsova's husband, Oleg Kozlov, received an eight-year prison sentence. The court found Kuznetsova guilty of receiving more than 11 million rubles from entrepreneurs for allowing them to work in the MFC premises. Her husband acted as a middleman in receiving bribes. Kuznetsova and Kozlov were previously acquitted but the case was retried on appeal. The defense plans to challenge the court’s decision.
Former chairman of the committee on informatization of the Saratov region Larisa Kuznetsova and her husband Oleg Kozlov have been found guilty of taking a bribe in a criminal case. This was reported by the press service of the Oktyabrsky District Court of Saratov.
Ms. Kuznetsova was accused of receiving over 11 million rubles in illegal payments from individual entrepreneurs, while her husband was accused of facilitating the transfer of a bribe. The money was allegedly intended for allowing business activities within the State Institution of Public Health “MFC” in the Saratov Region. According to investigators, the funds were transferred to Kuznetsova from September 2013 to February 2017, during her time as head of the committee, and after the department was dissolved in December 2016, she became deputy minister of economic development.

The criminal case against Larisa Kuznetsova began in the spring of 2020, after she resigned from the government following charges brought against her in April of that year.
In April 2021, following the trial in the Oktyabrsky District Court, the former official and her husband were acquitted. The court stated, “The evidence presented by the prosecution, in conjunction with other examined evidence, did not establish the occurrence of the crimes alleged by Kuznetsova and Kozlov, leading the court to issue an acquittal.”
Larisa Kuznetsova was reinstated in the regional government. On June 24 of the previous year, the criminal case against Larisa Kuznetsova and Oleg Kozlov was sent back to the Oktyabrsky District Court for a new trial following an appeal by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Saratov Region. The next day, it was reported that Kuznetsova resigned from the government.
The lawyer of Larisa Kuznetsova, Elena Sergun, asked the court to send her client's case back to the prosecutor due to procedural violations, but the court refused.
During the debate on January 21, the state prosecution requested a 10-year prison sentence for Mrs. Kuznetsova and her husband, Oleg Kozlov. This request for punishment was also made during the first trial.
After the retrial, the district court sentenced Larisa Kuznetsova to 10 years in a penal colony, fined her 35 million rubles, and prohibited her from holding certain state positions for eight years. The sentence has been suspended until her child reaches the age of fourteen. Her daughter is currently four years old.
Oleg Kozlov was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony and fined 35 million rubles. He was taken into custody in the courtroom.
The defense plans to appeal the verdict. Lawyer Larisa Kuznetsova Elena Sergun believes the verdict does not match the materials of the criminal case.
