Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Vladimir Tokarev, who is accused of particularly large-scale fraud, was placed in Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 4.
This is reported by TASS with reference to a member of the Public Monitoring Commission (POC) of Moscow, Eva Merkacheva.
According to her, this pre-trial detention center contains former security officials.
Merkacheva specified that Tokarev used to work as an investigator. Together with him, in a cell designed for 40 people, former operatives and other ex-law enforcement officers are kept.
According to the human rights activist, the deputy minister did not complain about the conditions in the detention center and was in a good mood. However, as emphasized in the PMC, Tokarev was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and therefore he may need medical attention.
Vladimir Tokarev was accused of using fictitious contracts to withdraw funds from the accounts of a controlled company, as well as misappropriation of funds intended for the reconstruction of a railway section in the Krasnodar Territory.
A criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 (“Fraud on an especially large scale as part of a group of persons”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The damage exceeded 500 million rubles.
