The security of providing banking services through Telegram was assessed
Telegram channels will not be able to fully replace online banking in the short term.
This opinion was expressed by Garegin Tosunyan, president of the Association of Russian Banks, in a conversation with Lenta.ru. He also assessed the security of providing banking services using the messenger.
“Telegram channels are widely used by clients, this is a fact. Telegram channels are the most common communication channel. But still, various additional options in relation to banking services do not occupy a significant share in customer service. Perhaps, over time, such communication channels will have a large share. But still, the work of Internet banking is one thing, when you see the whole range of opportunities and services, when you have the opportunity to get feedback. Telegram channels can probably provide a fairly large amount of information, but Internet banking is the most popular for users,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, said that the regulator’s specialists do not see technological risks in providing services to clients of Russian banks through Telegram channels, RIA Novosti reports. At the same time, she noted that Telegram channels are often used by scammers.
On February 15, the Ministry of Digital Investigation urged banks not to provide services to customers through instant messengers, as fraudsters can take advantage of this.
