Freedom to the nipples! Facebook and Instagram will allow you to show women’s breasts
Women’s breasts are no longer banned: Facebook and Instagram will allow women to show their nipples. Men were not allowed to do this.
It is reported by The Guardian with reference to Meta.
A new dispute over the right to publish nude images on social networks, according to The Guardian, flared up after Facebook’s algorithms blocked the posts of a transgender couple from the United States, deeming their pictures violated the rules on sexualized content.
After complaints, the moderators of the social network manually restored the publications, but the situation came to the attention of the company’s supervisory board. They decided that “the policy of moderation is based on a binary view of gender and the difference between the male and female body”, which makes it wrong, and recommended that uniform rules be established for the sexes.
“The restrictions and exceptions to the rules regarding female nipples are extensive and confusing, especially as they apply to transgender and non-binary people,” Meta’s Supervisory Board said in a statement.
The Council has now reversed decisions to take down nude nipple photos and recommended a review of the rules regarding the moderation of such photos.
Note that the moderation policy on Facebook and Instagram caused discontent among users and sometimes even led to protests.
So, in 2019, near the New York office of Facebook, activists held the #WeTheNipple rally, during which more than 100 people came to the office of Zuckerberg’s company completely naked, partially hiding behind posters with images of male nipples.
The fight against moderation in social networks has become part of the international campaign #FreeTheNipple (“Freedom for the nipples”), whose participants defended the right to freely publish photographs and artistic images of the female body.
