The State Duma suspected the United States of increasing pressure on Russian courts
The launch of the State Department’s initiative on political prisoners increases US pressure on the Russian judiciary. This suspicion was expressed in the Telegram channel by the head of the State Duma commission to investigate the facts of interference of foreign states in the internal affairs of Russia, Vasily Piskarev.
We are talking about the initiative “Without legal grounds”, aimed at raising awareness of the international community about the situation of political prisoners and their families. The American authorities are offering to take part in it to public figures around the world, including from Russia, Piskarev notes.
“They are promised support from American embassies and non-profit organizations in political and human rights activities in the interests of the United States. Thus, the flywheel of interference in our internal affairs is gaining momentum, and the US practiced pressure on the Russian judicial system in defense of criminals convicted of extremism and terrorism,” the deputy wrote.
According to Piskarev, the US authorities are openly ready to protect agents of foreign influence.
“But that’s bad luck – Washington devalued its noisy human rights rhetoric by sentencing protesters near the Capitol, declaring them “domestic terrorists” and sending them to prison for many years for opposition views,” the parliamentarian added.
On January 5, Piskarev called the appeal of the US Embassy to the Russians a call for unrest.
Prior to this, the US Embassy in Moscow published an appeal to the people of Russia, backing it up with a video selection. “We believe that what is happening is not worthy of you, and we stand in solidarity with each of you who are striving to create a more peaceful future,” the comment stated.
