The new leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) will be elected by the end of May at the party congress. According to the procedure, each region will present its candidacy for the post of head of the party.
This was told to Lente.ru by a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.
According to the deputy, not only State Duma deputies Leonid Slutsky and Yaroslav Nilov, who were nominated in the Moscow branch of the party, will become candidates for the post of chairman of the LDPR.
“The Moscow city branch of the LDPR today elected delegates to an extraordinary congress, which will elect the head of the LDPR party. Events like ours will take place and are taking place in other regions, other delegates will be nominated, and at the congress [из них] they will already elect a new leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia,” he explained.
The extraordinary XXXIV Congress of the Liberal Democratic Party is scheduled for May 27, said Dmitry Svishchev. He claims that the decision will be made exclusively by members of the Liberal Democratic Party.
“In our country, it is not the Russian authorities who choose the leader of the party, but the congress delegation, probably, will make a decision by an open vote. We have many worthy candidates. I think the most worthy will be chosen, definitely, these will be people from our party members, ”concluded the parliamentarian.
On May 18, the leader of the LDPR faction in the State Duma was Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the lower house of parliament’s committee on international affairs.

LDPR founder Vladimir Zhirinovsky died at the age of 76 after a long illness on April 6, 2022.
