The German Defense Ministry said that Ramstein did not make a decision to transfer Leopard 2 to Ukraine
To resolve the issue of arms supplies, representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance decided to carefully weigh all the pros and cons. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, following a meeting of representatives of the contact group on Ukraine at the Ramstein airbase, said that a decision on the supply of Leopard tanks to the Kyiv regime has not yet been made, Kommersant writes.
Pistorius pointed out that during the meeting of the heads of the defense ministries of the North Atlantic Alliance, the issue of the supply of tanks caused a heated discussion. At the same time, the minister specified that if the countries still agree on a new package of heavy weapons supplies, then Germany will act “quickly” in this matter. The point is that the supply of each Leopard tank can only be carried out with the approval of the Federal Republic of Germany.
“There are good reasons for deliveries and there are good reasons against. In view of the general situation, which has been going on for almost a year, it is necessary to weigh the pros and cons very carefully,” Mr. Pistorius said.
Earlier it was reported that the head of the US Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, could not get his colleague from Germany, Boris Pistorius, to agree to the transfer of tanks to Ukraine.
The Pentagon also reported on the allocation of a new $ 2.5 billion military assistance package to Ukraine, which became one of the largest since the start of a special military operation to protect Donbass.
