The Federation Council commented on the bill on Russia’s withdrawal from the CE treaties
The draft law on the termination of the Council of Europe (CE) treaties in Russia, introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the State Duma, will eliminate legal conflicts after leaving the organization.
This is how Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev commented on the document in his Telegram channel.
Kosachev noted that Russia withdrew from the “closed” (that is, open only to members of the Council of Europe) conventions of the organization from March 16, 2022, from the moment of the decision to withdraw from the CE. “In this sense, nothing new is happening,” the vice speaker said.
According to him, the draft law introduced by the president “eliminates the legal conflicts that have arisen as a result of this in our, Russian legal field.”
Earlier, the Russian Cabinet of Ministers proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to terminate the international treaties of the Council of Europe in relation to Moscow.
Later, on January 17, the president submitted a draft law to the State Duma, according to which the international treaties of the CE with respect to Russia will cease to be valid. At the moment, the bill has been registered and sent to the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.
