President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa, during a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, presented him with a stuffed lion. In return, he received a Belarusian-made tractor. This is reported by the publication BELTA.
Presentation of gifts to each other took place during the ceremony of transferring equipment from Belarus. The heads of the two states ate a loaf from the Zimbabwean harvest, and they were treated by girls from Zimbabwe in the national costumes of Belarus.
“This is a real folk festival. Music is playing, a lot of people and … tractors. And even Zimbabwean girls in national Belarusian costumes,” the journalists write.
During the presentation of Belarusian equipment, Alexander Lukashenko thanked the Western countries for the sanctions against his country. According to him, otherwise “on this huge field there would be not Belarusian tractors, but American and German ones.”
He also said that Belarus is entering Africa not to carry “some illusory democratic values”, but to work for the benefit of the people of Zimbabwe.
The Belarusian dictator added that Zimbabwe is rich in minerals, and therefore “no one will give this country a quiet life.” In turn, Belarus is a friendly state.
“These are our friends. We negotiate with them in the name of our peoples. We are going in peace. We are not going, as the colonialists once went. We bring technology here and train people here, train specialists,” he said.
