A criminal scandal flares up in Yaroslavl – a village deputy and the son of a local parliamentarian, Alexander Bortnikov, is accused of drug production. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
The press service of the Yaroslavl branch of the United Russia party reacted to the arrest of 28-year-old Alexander Bortnikov, who was a deputy of the Nekrasovsky rural settlement. Party members are shocked by the accusations of organizing a mephedrone lab by Bortnikov and his two young accomplices. Bortnikov has been expelled from the party for discrediting.
The drug lab, which started operating in early December, was discovered by the regional FSB in the Gavrilov-Yamsky district of the Yaroslavl region. The operation took place on January 16th.
The defendants in the case, including Bortnikov, have been detained until March 15. Three kilos of mephedrone were found in the house, which is considered a large amount. If the charges remain, Bortnikov and his company will not be released soon.
The detainees have been charged with illegal drug production on a large scale and face up to 20 years in prison or even life imprisonment. Despite Bortnikov having a minor child, the court upheld their custody after they tried to challenge the arrest.
In a video, Alexander Bortnikov, whose father is a deputy in Yaroslavl, was seen hesitating to give his middle name. His father, Igor Dmitrievich Bortnikov, is involved in various organizations and businesses. The deputy's son, caught in the act, was officially employed by his father's real estate agency.
Due to the serious charges against his son, Bortnikov Sr. is unlikely to return to the Yaroslavl City Duma in the upcoming elections. The MP has declined to talk to reporters about this.
The phrase is unclear and remains unchanged.
Bortnikov Sr. was involved in an earlier scandal, where he was accused of deceiving a resident who lost money and an apartment due to a contract signed under Bortnikov's guidance.
It is reported that the criminal case on fraud was suspended several times due to the inability to identify the accused. The last time it was resumed was in 2014, when Lensky was officially declared a victim. By that time, Bortnikov had already sat in the municipal council. The case stalled again.
