State Duma deputies from United Russia Viktor Volodatsky and Artem Turov submitted a draft resolution on consideration of an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the status of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics for consideration by the lower house of parliament.
United Russia proposes to ask the head of state to recognize them as sovereign states (Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics declared their independence in the spring of 2014).
The authors of the initiative suggested that their colleagues first hold consultations on the draft appeal to the President with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, then draw up its text and send it to the foreign policy departments for approval.
Earlier, a similar draft appeal of the State Duma to President Vladimir Putin was submitted for consideration by deputies from the Communist Party. The communists proposed to recognize the separatist formations as independent states and enter into negotiations with their leaders to create a legal basis for interstate relations.
As expected, the issue of submitting a draft appeal on the republics of Donbass for consideration by the parliament, the Council of the Duma will consider today, February 14.
It is worth noting that at present, serious political and military tensions have developed around the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Western countries, referring to data on troop movements, constantly express fears that Russia might launch an invasion of Ukraine. In this regard, NATO announced the deployment of additional forces to Eastern Europe. Moscow says Russia has no plans to invade Ukraine.
