At the same time, the first company will leave personnel to ensure warranty service for its cars, and the second intends to leave the country completely.
Automakers Volvo and Land Rover Jaguar have decided to cut the bulk of the staff of their Russian offices. This information, citing sources in the market, is provided by Kommersant.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Volvo will leave to work only those employees who provide warranty service for its cars in Russia. In addition, the automaker will not restrict dealers’ access to vehicle diagnostic systems, “without compromising their ability to operate safely.”
Meanwhile, Land Rover Jaguar, in fact, completely stops its work in the Russian Federation, sources told Kommersant. This company will have only those employees who will coordinate administrative interactions at the stage of closing a legal entity.
A week earlier, it became known that the American automaker General Motors (GM) was also liquidating its Russian representative office and laying off employees. In addition, the automaker has notified dealers of the cessation of deliveries of vehicles and parts. By the way, General Motors curtailed production in Russia back in 2015, against the background of the annexation of Crimea, and supplied only expensive Chevrolet and Cadillac models to the Russian market. Meanwhile, on March 11, the United States announced a ban on the export of luxury goods to Russia, including expensive cars. In recent weeks, the automaker has been waiting for clarification from the US regulator regarding this ban. After they were received, it was decided to completely withdraw from Russia.
Earlier it was reported that the management of the auto concern Stellantis decided to suspend production at its plant, located in Kaluga. The shutdown is due to a growing number of cross-sanctions as well as logistical difficulties, according to the company.
