Russian banks subject to blocking sanctions will not be able to issue new Visa and Mastercard cards. This was reported today by RIA Novosti with reference to the National System of Payment Cards.
We are talking about VTB, Sovcombank, Novikombank, Otkritie Bank, Promsvyazbank and Rossiya Bank.
The cards that these banks have already issued will continue to work within Russia until the expiration date. Clients’ funds are saved on accounts, all operations are available.
The United States imposed blocking sanctions against Russian banks after Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. With the help of Visa and Mastercard cards of these banks, it is no longer possible to pay abroad.
Operations with cards of the Mir payment system remain available to the customers of these banks in full, including through the Mir Pay service for smartphones based on the Android operating system that support NFC technology.
