Google has blocked Russia Today and Sputnik YouTube channels in connection with the events in Ukraine.
This is stated in the twitter of the European division of the company. “Our teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to take prompt action,” the statement said.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded that Google LLC immediately restrict access to materials about “numerous casualties among Russian military personnel and the civilian population of Ukraine during a military special operation.” Such information was published on certain Russian Internet sites as part of Google Ads contextual advertising. These data are unreliable, the department said in its telegram channel.
Meanwhile, Google has banned Russian state-owned media outlets from receiving money for advertising on their websites, apps and YouTube videos. A similar step was taken by Facebook, which also banned Russian state-owned media from showing ads and monetizing on the social network.
