CEC of Belarus let down preliminary results of the referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the country. According to them, 65.16% of citizens supported the amendments to the basic law.
10.07% were against. In total, 5.3 million people participated in the referendum.
The changes mean that the same person will not be able to hold the presidency for more than two terms. At the same time, after the expiration of the presidential term, the head of state will be able to become a life member of the upper house of parliament.
It is also proposed to supplement the Constitution with an article on the inviolability of the president, which will prohibit holding the former head of state liable for actions committed during the exercise of presidential powers.
