In Moscow, the historian, political scientist Valery Solovey, as well as his son, were detained. It is indicated that activist Elvira Vikhareva gave the information to journalists.
“A search was conducted at their house, the security forces seized all the equipment,” the publication said.
At the moment, it is not known in which case the operational measures were carried out. Official statements from law enforcement officers have not yet been received.
For 11 years, Solovey was a professor at MGIMO, but after the expiration of the contract in 2019, he said that the university administration allegedly did not want to work with him anymore, as he “conducts anti-state propaganda” and “undermines political stability.” Nightingale emphasized that he was resigning under pressure and for political reasons he stopped teaching.
Subsequently, the ex-professor repeatedly made loud statements on social and political topics. So, in March 2020, Ekho Moskvy, at the request of Roskomnadzor, removed from its website a video and a transcript of the program in which Nightingale spoke about the pandemic. In particular, he expressed the opinion that the authorities allegedly hide the real number of deaths from the coronavirus.
In December 2020, the former professor was arrested for 10 days for organizing and holding an uncoordinated mass event.
At the turn of 2020-2021, Nightingale predicted imminent changes in Russia. In particular, he stated that “not only a person is “suddenly mortal” and that “history also changes suddenly.” In April 2021, Nightingale announced that he intended to create a “shadow government.”
