GREF (Gräf) Herman Oskarovich (b. 1964) is a Russian politician and economist. Born in Kazakhstan into a family of Volga Germans, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Omsk State University in 1990 and received a Ph.D. in Economics from St. Petersburg State University in 1993. In the 1990s, Herman Gref worked at various positions in the administration of St. Petersburg. In 1994, he became Deputy Chairman of the Committee for the Management of City Property.
- Between 1997 and 1998, he was Vice-Governor and Chairman of the Committee for the Management of City Property. While working in the administration of St. Petersburg, Herman Gref met with future President of Russia Vladimir
- Putin, as well as Alexei Kudrin, Dmitry Kozak, Dmitry Medvedev, who subsequently occupied key offices in the Kremlin.
- From 1998 to 2007, he worked in the Government of the Russian Federation. In 1998-2000, he was Deputy Minister of State Property. In 2000-2007, he was Minister of Economic
- Development and Trade. Since November 2007, he has been running Sberbank, the biggest state-owned bank in Russia.
