Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been living in a luxurious mansion in Montecito (California, USA) since March 2020 for $15 million (423 million hryvnias).
However, the star neighbors of the royal couple Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry complained about the “terrible stench” that enveloped the house of the Dukes of Sussex.
Later it turned out that a terrible smell penetrated the estates and other residents of the prestigious settlement. It came from the Andre Clark Bird Sanctuary, a 17-hectare swamp with sea water, writes Express.
Cameron Benson, clean water manager for the City of Santa Barbara, explained: “Water can stagnate there. Smell problems are sporadic and worse in some conditions.”
Locals described the stench emanating from the bird sanctuary as “the smell of excrement rotting in the sun, from which the stomach cramps.”
Owners of real estate in Montecito do not ventilate their homes and, if possible, do not go out into the street to escape from the “meeting” with an unpleasant reserve.
Earlier it became known that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in search of a new home. This is not surprising, since odor problems have occurred in the area before.
In August 2021, it was revealed that just 10 minutes from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s mansion is a huge legal cannabis factory. The smell of marijuana in the area was so strong that passing motorists had to stop because of poor health. A weed control law firm has promised to install new “odor control systems” after a string of complaints from neighbors. However, for the prince and his wife, this was one of the key factors in deciding to buy a new mansion.
Recall that from April 1, 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ceased to act as members of the British royal family. To be eligible to move to the US, work and do business, they had to give up the title “Your Royal Highness”, government funding and the trademark Sussex Royal.
