The International Historical and Educational Society “Memorial” (included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent) appealed to the Supreme Court with a request to suspend its liquidation.
This was reported on the website of the organization.
The organization’s lawyers filed a corresponding application with the Court of Appeal.
Their position is based on the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), according to which Russia must suspend the proceedings to liquidate Memorial until the ECHR considers the NGO’s complaint against the Russian law on foreign agents.
“The Board of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Russia, having received the petition of the international Memorial to suspend the proceedings, may postpone the consideration of the case until the ECHR makes a decision – and then the decision on liquidation will not enter into force,” the organization’s website says.
Earlier it was reported that the Supreme Court would review its decision to liquidate Memorial on February 28.
