The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Andrey Smagin, a resident of Tambov, who planned an explosion in a student dormitory, to 8 years in prison, the press service of the Investigative Committee reports.
The young man was found guilty of undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code), preparing to commit a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code), illegal manufacture of explosives (Part 1 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code) and illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and carrying of explosives (Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code).
According to the Investigative Committee, Smagin was a supporter of the ideology of Nazism and hated people of non-Slavic appearance. In 2020, he decided to blow up a student dormitory building in order to influence the decisions of the Russian authorities in the field of migration policy. To do this, using correspondence in an online messenger, he studied special instructions, literature and videos on the manufacture of homemade explosives, and then tested it in deserted places. The terrorist attack was prevented by the FSB in December 2021. A 17-year-old young man was detained in a rented apartment, where they found substances and components for making a bomb.

The material, in particular, mentioned Andrei S., a 17-year-old student of the Tambov college. State channels claimed that the detainee planned to “blow up one of the buildings” of the city. NTV channel in the story about M.K.U. calls a member of the Tambov cell of the movement “Matvey Shpagin”.
According to Present Time, supporters of M.K.U. called the detainee the leader of the Tambov cell of the movement.
