The police in Yekaterinburg opened a criminal case due to damage to the painting “Three Figures” by Malevich’s student Anna Leporskaya, TASS reports.
Previously, the police refused to initiate a case “because of the insignificant amount of damage.”
The Ministry of Culture appealed the decision of the Yekaterinburg police, which refused to initiate a case, to the Prosecutor General’s Office. As a result, the case was opened under Article 214 of the Criminal Code (“Vandalism”).
“At present, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are analyzing footage from CCTV cameras, interviewing possible eyewitnesses and witnesses of the incident,” Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, told TASS.
