Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin appointed Valentin Ivanov, deputy director of the government’s construction department, to the post of Deputy Minister of Transport, from which Vladimir Tokarev, suspected of fraud, was fired. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.
The new deputy head of the Ministry of Transport came to the government in 2020. First, he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Regional Development and Infrastructure, then moved to the Department of Construction.
Before working in the Cabinet, Ivanov was the chief engineer of the Directorate for the Comprehensive Reconstruction of Railways and the Construction of Railway Transport Facilities, which is part of the structure of Russian Railways, and headed the North-West Federal Highway Administration.
Mishustin dismissed Tokarev from his post on Tuesday, January 25. The former deputy minister is accused of fraud on an especially large scale – over 523 million rubles in damage. The official denies all charges.
On January 21, the Khoroshevsky Court of Moscow arrested Tokarev until March 18.
