The Federation Council called the condition for solving the problem of Kosovo
The head of the defense committee of the Federation Council, Viktor Bondarev, believes that the Kosovo problem should be resolved by maintaining the status quo. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
According to Bondarev, the territory of the republic should remain part of Serbia. The senator noted that the European approach to the settlement of Serbian-Kosovo relations is not new. He recalled that the precedent was set at the beginning of the conflict, in 2007, when the ex-president of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari, developed a similar plan based on the mutual recognition of Serbia and Kosovo. However, the European Union, which was supposed to mediate, rejected this plan. “Now almost the same thing is being proposed by the same European Union,” the head of the committee wrote.
According to him, Russia considers Kosovo part of the legal territory of Serbia and does not support separatism. The adoption of the “European plan”, in his opinion, is at least hasty. “The status of Kosovo cannot be settled while a military conflict flares up in Europe, namely in Ukraine, that is, until the victorious completion of a special military operation by Russia,” Bondarev said.
On February 27, Serbia and Kosovo supported an agreement that allows their residents to move through each other’s territory with internal passports. This was announced by the head of the European Parliament (EP) Josep Borrell. Later, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called the talks on Kosovo in Brussels difficult.
In February, Vučić said that the West could only dream of Belgrade’s recognition of Pristina’s independence. Prior to that, he called the refusal to recognize the independence of Kosovo the final decision.
