Yashin was returned to the Moscow pre-trial detention center
Former municipal deputy Ilya Yashin (included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the list of foreign agents) was returned to SIZO-4 in Moscow, the opposition politician said on his Telegram channel. Yashin noted that his transfer to the colony was illegal, since the court verdict had not yet entered into force. He added that he is now waiting for the court to consider his appeal.
My transfer was not very legal. The verdict has not yet entered into force, we are waiting for the appeal, and the court is obliged to acquaint me with the materials of the criminal case,” wrote Yashin.
At the end of December 2022, Yashin was transferred from SIZO-4 in Moscow to Izhevsk.
The Meshchansky Court of Moscow previously sentenced the politician to eight and a half years in a penal colony in the case of spreading fakes about the Russian army. Lawyers for the former municipal deputy filed a motion to appeal the verdict.
According to the position of the court, the former mundep spread false information about what happened in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, “guided by the motives of political hatred.” The guilt of the politician, according to the judge, is confirmed by the testimony of a witness – an employee of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the text of the verdict, the fact that Yashin “feels hatred for Russian state institutions” is confirmed by media publications.
