Roman Abramovich’s candidacy as Ukraine’s negotiator with Russia at the beginning of the war offered Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, writes Country.
Producer Alexander Rodnyansky spoke about this in an interview.
“The first person to call me after the invasion began was my son. And the second is Andriy Yermak, who asked to involve Roman Abramovich in the negotiation process. No hello, no goodbye, but immediately said – “Let’s talk with Abramovich“, – said Rodnyansky.
According to him, the discussion of the candidacy of the mediator began even before the start of a full-scale war.
“During the last pre-war months of tension, I talked to many Ukrainian friends and politicians and they talked about the need to find someone who could become a full-fledged mediator, because it seemed to them that the mediators appointed by the Kremlin did not convey, did not cope, did not formulate what what they’re saying. I always answered that I don’t know Kremlin politicians in general, but I know practically all Russian big businessmen. And I said that the best person I know is Roman Abramovich“, he said.
He said that “Abramovich has empathy” and that he has the ability to convey the position directly to the leadership of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Rodnyansky said that after the tragedy in Bucha, negotiations became impossible and since then the parties with the participation of Abramovich have been talking only about the exchange of prisoners.
