Wagner PMC fighters from among the criminals will not be able to be elected to the State Duma – deputy

In Russia, there are restrictions on voting rights for citizens with an outstanding criminal record, they cannot be elected deputies, recalled Yuri Sinelshchikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Legislation.

This is how he commented on the initiative of his colleague Andrei Gurulev. He proposed to elect Wagner PMC fighters to parliament, even if we are talking about prisoners.

“You can want, but there are laws, everything is written there, they are known,” RBC quotes the deputy.

Sinelshchikov added that so far there is no information about the mechanism for the release of convicts participating in the SVO, so talk about their participation in the elections is premature.

Lawyers also remind that, depending on the severity of the article, even after being released, convicted Russians remain deprived of their voting rights from five to 15 years.
