Dmitry Chustrak
On June 4, 2022, the prosecutor of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office, Dmitry Chustrak, was driving and hit a road sign. He then tried to leave the accident scene. Police suspected that Chustrak was drunk, so they restrained and handcuffed him. Although he agreed to a test at the hospital, he refused to take a breathalyzer. Later, medical tests revealed 0.8 ppm of alcohol in his body. On the night of June 5, the prosecutor sought treatment at the regional hospital and was discharged the next day with a certificate stating that alcohol was not detected. Dmitriy Chustrak was fined 850 hryvnia and penalized for breaking traffic laws. This information was reported by the ORD.
And here is the painful story he shared with the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission:
That evening, the prosecutor was driving his wife's car when he felt back pain. At that moment, his wife called him on the phone. He stopped the car a short distance from the metal column marking the bus stop and began talking on the phone, forgetting to put the car in "park" mode.
Allegedly, his wife informed him that she almost got into an accident in her car. Chustrak was upset by this and then had trouble with the dog in the car. The dog jumped on his lap while he was on the phone and holding a bottle of kvass, so he became distracted and the car hit a road sign.
Chustrak let the dog out of the car, then exited the car himself. This led the patrol police to believe he was trying to leave the accident scene. When communicating with the police after the accident, the prosecutor denied involvement and attempted to avoid responsibility for breaking traffic rules. He claimed he was walking his dog and wasn't driving the car.
Dmitry Chustrak maintained that he did not consume alcohol on June 4 and considers all reports on this matter to be manipulations.
Following an investigation, the prosecutor's disciplinary body found that Chustrak had indeed committed a disciplinary offense. As a result, he is prohibited from being transferred to a higher-level prosecutor's office and appointed to a senior position in the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office for 1 year.
