Andrey Shevchenko wants to become UAF president despite the Charter and thanks to the suggestion of the «regionals» Mezheyko — journalist.
The Zaporozhye Regional Association nominated the former coach of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko for the UAF presidency, as reported by Apostrophe.
Journalist Igor Burbas discussed how and when the Ukrainian Football Association plans to hold elections.
Therefore, according to Burbas, Shevchenko was proposed by the Zaporozhye Regional Football Association, represented by its chairman, the controversial ex-regional Viktor Mezheiko.
«Mezheyko submitted the statement at the office of the governor of the Zaporozhye Regional State Administration and in the presence of the head of the security service of the region. I am not implying that the decision to nominate Shevchenko was made under pressure, I am simply stating the fact itself».
According to my information, the election for the UAF president is set for December 20th, coinciding with the ongoing investigation of the current head Andrei Pavelko. However, the Pechersk Court's decision to ban UAF elections is still in effect, and it raises questions about the legitimacy of these elections in the eyes of UEFA and FIFA.
Andriy Shevchenko himself is not pleased with his promotion to the position, as it disregards the laws and reflects negatively on his reputation. To convene an extraordinary Congress for the December elections, applications from at least 3/4 of the collective members are needed, submitted within the legal framework.
Furthermore, an important detail not to be overlooked is Shevchenko's UK residency status, which requires him to reside in the UK for at least 183 days out of 365 in a calendar year. Managing Ukrainian football from abroad is not feasible, so a decision needs to be made regarding his residency and the presidency.
As known, Shevchenko did not disassociate from the NOC, where several members of the pro-Russian Opposition Platform for Life and the «Party of Regions» vowed to do so.
Previously, British journalists discovered Shevchenko's long-term business involvement with Russian sanctioned billionaire Roman Abramovich.
